Jen just got an email from her mother and has already started to panic. Jen’s mother lives in London and hasn’t seen Jen, Stephen, or baby Evan since she was here, in Seattle, for Evan’s birth almost three years ago. Although Jen and her mother stay in regular contact by cell phone and Skype, Jen has taken great efforts to avoid her mother knowing that Evan isn’t potty trained yet, even though he’ll be three next month. Jen is panicked because her mother invited herself here to celebrate Evan’s birthday and now she’ll find out.
Jen knows she’s late in getting Evan out of diapers. Her closest friend had a little girl who is only four months younger than Even, but who is already completely potty trained. Jen and her friend laugh at the thought of their children growing up and marrying one another someday, but Jen’s anxiety about potty training Evan makes her secretly wonder if he’ll be out of diapers by then. Jen visited several websites like http://www.pampers.com/en_US/Toddler and http://www.babycenter.com/toddler-potty-training-advice and learned that he’s already past being physically mature enough to start training. To tell the truth, even though it’s expensive, it’s so convenient. Jen can even change Evan while he’s standing up, so it’s pretty easy to handle if they’re out in public when he needs a change.
Jen already talked with Evan’s pediatrician about potty training and she said that boys generally train later and take longer than girls. Stephen agreed. “It’s no big deal. Even will be out of diapers by the time he’s in kindergarten. Until then, it really doesn’t matter,” he said.

.Should she try to accomplish this before her mother arrives for Evan’s birthday?

.Should she adopt Stephen’s more relaxed attitude and hope Evan will be diaper-free by kindergarten?
. Should she ask her mother to help her train Evan?

My daughter is 2 years old, she turned two in July.

Just about a month ago she started showing interest in what people are doing in the bathroom, asking ‘whatcha dooin’. About two months ago she got ‘unscared’ of the potty. Before, we just placed her on the potty to see what she did and she would scream. She JUST got over being afraid of it.

Now, I’m pretty sure she’s not completely ready to be potty trained, it doesn’t phase her when her diaper is soiled, she can’t stay dry unless she’s out in public ( For some reason she stays dry longer when we’re out and about ) She can’t even take a small nap w/o wetting her diaper. She also shows no interest in ‘big girl undies’ or sitting on the toilet on her own, we have to set her on the potty or ask her to set on it.

So, when we start potty training her how should we go about it. ( cause i’m sure she’s going to be a lot more difficult than my son who was all super interested and learned REALLY quickly when to go and all that )

Also has anyone else had difficult toddlers to potty train? I mean, shes already over two and not really interested in it, when I try to show her what to do she just doesn’t seem to care, giggles, runs off, thinks everything I’m saying is a game or funny. Which can be frustrating, but it doesn’t bother me too much.

I also have an issue with the father who is REALLY pushing the potty training thing on me, which is fine, but I just feel like she is NOT ready. She potties in her training pants / undies and it doesn’t phase her, even after I set her on the potty, she’ll say she’s done, pull them up then tee tee in them.

So any suggestions or anything would be awesome. Do you think I should wait a little while until she seems interested or actually phased by dirty diapers?

My son is 3 yr, 4 mo. He wears a Goodnite at night and doesn’t soak it too bad. He is a little silly and doesn’t cooperate and listen as much as we like, even given his age. He goes poo on potty perfectly. He still has pee accidents on floor. When I put him up for his hour play time / nap, most of the time it’s just a play time escape for Mommy. But when Mommy’s away, he pees on the floor much more than usual. Now sure if he’s busy with toys or just doesn’t care about the mess.

I am trying never to buy another Pull Up package again in my life and I don’t think the Pull Ups help him learn. What’s my best course of action? He will not pull down underwear. (He can go out shopping, etc and use the adult toilets fine and rarely has an accident in his pants). Do I deal with the puddles in his room and eventually he learns to pee in potty when I’m away? On the off chance he naps, he won’t wake up to pee, so you can see my dilemma. What do I do during the play time / possible nap?

(Green way: I have reusable Gerber training pants/waterproof exteriors but it’s not absorbent enough for actual naps. What do I put in there to absorb?)

I don’t know if the autism has anything to do with it but potty training my now 27 month old has been a challenge especially because she doesn’t talk yet and can’t tell me when she needs to go. We have started a picture wall so she can show me the picture of a potty etc as a sign. Speech therapy is also teaching her basic sign language.

Anyways day 1 and two she peed very well every time I brought her but after that she plays with the toilet paper then wants down. Then will continue to wet her diaper. We did have training panties on her but she kept soiling them.

How can I promote potty use and what’s a good schedule for the day?

*she doesn’t talk and won’t understand anything except one step commands if that
*she would NOT comprehend a reward system (we’ve tried)

Thanks

We’ve been working with our daughter on potty training. She has gone in the potty a couple of times, but its been a bit of a challenge. The great thing is that she goes over there lifts up the potty lid and sits on it and points to us to let us know to take off her diaper, but she doesn’t go potty. She’ll sit and then get up, so we’re constantly putting her back on it. I don’t yell at her about getting back on, because I don’t want it to be a bad experience, so if she doesn’t go then I’ll ask if she’s done, and if she says yes, then the diaper goes back on. She’s always tugging at her diaper, in the back she has scratches from trying to get it off herself and the front is always warped I read somewhere putting them in underwear while they’re up and around helps them and makes them feel uncomfortable so that they learn and understand the importance of going potty in the potty. I don’t want to buy pull ups, and I’m willing to clean up the messes she makes with pottying in her panties, so would it be a good idea to start putting her in panties during day and at naptime/bed she wears diaper?
